I am a visual artist based in Midlothian, Scotland. I create paintings of woodland landscapes and gnarled trees that I come across on my walks through nature. These woodlands are mainly in Scotland with some abroad in Europe and Canada. I create them using water mixable oil paint on canvas to avoid extra fumes whilst working at home.
Colour plays a very important role in these works. Warm and unusual hues of pinks, oranges and reds set of the lush green tones of the foliage around. I enjoy making drawings of animals which I render using fine liner pens with some additions of paint. Particularly, I enjoy creating drawings of the native and plentiful wildlife in Scotland and I am always working to expand my selection of these animals.
I was born in North Wales and lived by the sea. Often, I enjoyed unique sunsets from my window and the beautiful landscapes of the area. As a student, I completed my undergraduate degree in Fine Art at Newcastle University (2012-2016). Later, I also completed an MSc in History of Art, Theory and Display at the University of Edinburgh (2020-2022). I lived in Toronto, Canada for two years before moving to Midlothian and settling there since 2018.
Unsurprisingly, I am passionate about all things trees and forests as well as the preservation of wildlife. Climate change provides a real threat to our natural environment and being stewards of nature is more important than ever.
