Lunga Puffin, 2024
Mixed media on paper (fine liner pen and water mixable oil)
I was inspired to draw this little puffin by a sunshine filled boat trip to Lunga, Treshnish Isles. The boat trip left from the Isle of Mull where we were staying and also stopped at Staffa, another amazing island. The puffins are quite tame on Lunga and you can lie in the grass watching them nest or feed their little pufflings.
I created this piece using Staedtler fine liner pens which are rich in colour. For higlights I also added a little water mixable oil paint.
Prints of this Lunga puffin are available at my shop
I am a visual artist based in Midlothian, Scotland. I create paintings of woodland landscapes and gnarled trees that I come across on my walks through nature. These woodlands are mainly in Scotland with some abroad in Europe and Canada. I make my work using water mixable oil paint on canvas to avoid extra fumes whilst I’m working at home.
Colour plays a very important role in these works. Warm and unusual hues of pinks, oranges and reds set off the lush green tones of the foliage around. I enjoy making drawings of animals using fine liner pens with some additions of paint. Particularly, I enjoy creating drawings of the native and plentiful wildlife in Scotland. Always, I am working to expand the selection of these animals.
