Anaga National Park in Tenerife is a beautiful park. It is full of mountainous ranges, lush foliage and ancient winding walls and paths. It is quite a contrast to the southern, dry and coastal regions of Tenerife. I really enjoyed the way the trees curved over the path, like a natural arched ceiling of greenery. The path draws you in to the shelter of the trees.
I spent about a month creating this piece and really got absorbed in painting the leaves of the forest canopy. I also wanted the white paint to really indicate the play of light on the leaves. The path itself had a bright terracotta tone as the base colour. I then layered it with paint splatters and more subtle tones. I wanted the bright reds of the soil to show through underneath the other paint layers. Whilst walking the paths of these lush forests, you can feel the history. You can sense all of the people who have trodden these paths throughout the centuries. This work alongside two others is going on display in The Big Art Show, Paisley run by Outspoken Arts from 30th August 2024 – 16th November 2024.
