Killarney Lake, British Columbia, Canada depicts a picturesque scene from Bowen Island. The island is a short ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay, West Vancouver. I took inspiration for this painting from a family trip I took a couple of years ago. The grandeur of the forest around us struck me, as well as the overall natural beauty of the island. Everything in British Columbia including the trees seem so much larger than those in the United Kingdom. It was a warm, beautiful day and we had taken a walk around the aforementioned lake and a family member pointed out a particularly well-framed view of the lake framed by silhouetted trees. I added pink to this piece to highlight the dreamy, almost unreal quality of the landscape. Pink tones are some of my favourites to include in forest scenes as they really contrast and highlight the lush greens of these landscapes. The foliage from the trees lies behind a hazy, surreal veil.
